KINGSLEY POP

The Kingsley Radio Company had started back in 1931 but it wasn't until early 1958 that the record divison was started. Kingsley Records were unusual in that, rather than the regular 2 sided vinyl 45's available from the mid '50's onwards, these were one sided releases made of cardboard with the playable side the shiny thin plastic side of the disc. Though at 7.5 inches they were virtually the same size as a regular single, they also played at 33 1/3. These were mostly sold at discount department stores rather than the regular outlets. As you might expect the sound quality of these releases was negligible at best. The artists are mostly unknown despite some popular 'Tonight' show type performers of the era appearing occasionally, none better known than Mr. Sigley who went on to compere his own show in the 60's & 70's in Australia and is still active on radio today. These records are also not collectable for their musical worth either aurally or artistically but there are those who collect them for their novelty value.
